North Devon District Hospital
Ravenslade worked with an experienced multi disciplinary healthcare team to provide full Project and Cost Management services and lead the RIBA Stage 2 feasibility study for Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust at the North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.
This was a major and technically complex project study on a 1960s built hospital theatre suite to assess the current condition, replacement ventilation strategy, design and costings for the various options available to refurbish the four main theatres situated in the centre of the hospital. As part of the feasibility brief, it was essential to consider the continuity of the hospital service and minimise disruption during the construction works.
The solution for this was to:
Implement a carefully detailed phasing programme for the main works.
Instigate enabling works consisting of modular theatres for expedient use whilst the main theatres were decommissioned during the build period.
A careful thought process to devise a safety plan for contractors access requirements to their working areas and segregation from the hospital patients and staff.
